The other day I showed you how I went about design The other day I showed you how I went about designing this actuator atm for a vintage Rolls Royce, so I thought I might follow up with the install video.
I had a question regarding the purpose of a fillet on a design like this so hopefully that gives a little clarity to the purpose.

While it won't do much while in use, it will help for a future scenario where someone might push or pull on it to remove it. Perhaps in another 50+ years.

I can't wait for all the comments telling me how wrong I got this and that 3D prints won't last. Maybe I should make that a mini-series ✌️

I often get comments that are words to the effect I often get comments that are words to the effect of "I wish I could..."
You absolutely can.
Don't be discouraged by thinking you might do a bad job, or make a mistake.
I make mistakes constantly.
Every day.

All the time.

Sometimes I might remake something 5+ times or be on version 0.9999
It doesn't matter, if someone's got something critical to say about what you're doing it's most likely because they wish they could be doing it themselves.

I've never had anyone doing better than me, go out of their way to try and bring me down. If you think about it I'd bet you're probably the same.

Here's a little snippet of a few ways that you might consider making some of your first (or 100th+) custom parts. From a scrap piece of paper, to a CAD design, 3D print to laser or water jet cutting, and possibly even to CNC machining.

You can make things as simple or as complex as you'd like.

Get out there and start making some mistakes.

Not every design needs to be complex, sometimes th Not every design needs to be complex, sometimes they can be quick, little wins. Although this part would be unlikely to break again in operation, considering we're modelling it anyway it doesn't hurt to make a couple of improvements while we're there.

Modelling time from start to completed print is well under an hour and it's just another example of not only how far 3D printing has come but also just how handy and versatile it can be in your projects.

There's plenty of free CAD softwares out there that you can get started with - the biggest hurdle is just knowing how to measure and model a part. Hand drawing is universal - you should practice it 🙂

Lots more information on my YT and deep dives into how things work.

Lemme know what you think and if you'd like more of these ✌️

Flashback to one of the jobs that I've been puttin Flashback to one of the jobs that I've been putting off for ever and ever on the Ke25 is rust repairs. The reason for that is because I don't want to start something and then not do the best job I possibly can - which would, in reality, mean weeks of constant work on the car. But in the spirit of this month of "get stuff done" I'm going to attempt to find a middle ground.

I'm going to fix all the worst spots that really need it and then just convert/prime other minor areas of concern and get it tidied up to get it actually driving again.
Then I'll be happy to have it off the road for a few weeks in the future while I do a better job in a few other areas.

Anyway, let me know what you think✌️

Flashback - So it wasn't the only problem, but I f Flashback - So it wasn't the only problem, but I finally caved and got an electronic distributor. I was avoiding it mainly because it will need recurving when I put the turbo on, but thems the breaks.

It's a lot to cram in one video, but I replaced the condenser, points, cap, rotor and still no good. Pulled the plate and found that one of the advance springs was not attached. Still no good. Also the vacuum advance doesn't work. So basically it can get -

Finally feels like I can start moving forward. I was going to take it for a test drive but I might have had a complete breakdown if I got it around the corner and had to push it home again.

I was trying to avoid making many changes to the K I was trying to avoid making many changes to the KE25 Corolla engine and engine bay prior to getting it back on the road, but turns out the universe had other ideas for me.
Technically there wasn't anything "wrong" with the thermostat housing but there's no way in good conscience I could put it back on the car looking like that.
So, naturally, "just a water pump" became practically a 2 day event.
Also, either the pump that was on the car is wrong or the listing is wrong, but I ended up with a t30 pump instead of a t50 which of course had different pulleys. Luckily that seems to be the only difference so I swapped those over pretty easily.
Turned up a new outlet for the thermostat housing on the lathe and also gave everything a good clean and bit of a surface on my custom surface plate...
The bolt that snapped had just a little too much corrosion on it but other than that, everything else came up a treat.
I also cleaned a bunch of bolts and made up a new spacer for the alternator (I switched to a ke70 one a few years ago which is internally regulated) and also checked the brushes there while I was at it.

Now I'm ready for the next thing to go wrong. ✌️
